چکیده

TTrypanosoma evansi, is one among several species of Trypanosomes responsible for a major protozoan parasitic disease domestic animals. The current study aimed to investigate the trypanocidal effects aqueous and methanolic leaf extracts Balanites aegyptiacaDel (Zygophyllaceae) suramin on albino rats infected with Trypanosoma evansi. In total, 35 Swiss randomly separated into seven (7) groups (A- G) 5 each were intraperitoneally 0.5 ml blood containing 1.0 × 106trypanosomes treated 7 days single dose respectively by day 12 post infection (p.i). Clinical parameters haematological indices evaluated. Preliminary phytochemical screening revealed that Balanitesaegyptiaca contained following metabolites: flavonoids, tannin, saponins, alkaloids, glycosides, steroids volatile oils. There was marked initial reduction in Packed Cell Volume (PCV), Haemoglobin (Hb) Red Blood Cells (RBCs) counts infected/untreated group (Group A) but treatment B. aegyptiaca extracts, these values reversed. Furthermore, there reversion leukopenia after individually (150 mg/kg aegyptiaca; Group B) from 3.47±1.49 103/mm3 p.i. 9.03±2.18 40 p.i., similar pre-infection value. conclusion, caused clinical changes ameliorated extract

EXPERIMENTAL Trypanosoma Evansi INFECTION IN ALBINO MICE – A HISTOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY

Histopathological changes were studied in Swiss albino mice (N:36) which were challenged with the South Indian local strain of Trypanosoma evansi. Each animal was infected with 5×105 trypanosomes intraperitoneally. The animals were examined daily for development of clinical signs and infection status by wet blood-fi lms made from the tail veins. The infected mice were dull and depressed from tw...
